Earthquake in Nepal

Many of you may have met our TPI Graduate Assistant, Preeti Yonjon.  She is an amazing person, student, leader and humanitarian.  She is from Nepal, and has lost many family members due to the earthquake in Nepal.  She has spent every waking moment since Saturday working to raise awareness and funds for those who are most impacted by the earthquake.  Below is some information she has compiled if you would like to know how you can help.

An earthquake of 7.9 magnitude has shaken Nepal and Nepali communities around the world.  Nearly 4,000 people are known dead in Nepal, with more than 7,000 injured. The Government of Nepal has declared a state of emergency and appealed to the world for humanitarian assistance. Many efforts are being made both locally and globally but will need lots of support and assistance. One of our Graduate Assistants, Preeti Yonjon, is working on raising money for a Nepal based non-profit, Aaroh- a non-political, non-religious, non-profitable, non-governmental organization (NGO). It is officially registered under the Society Act with the District Administration Office in Kathmandu (459) and is affiliated with SWC, the Social Welfare Council (affiliation number- 38685). Their vision is to be the primary support for the education and skill development to the underprivileged children and women for sustainable growth. During this crisis Aaroh will be mobilizing their earthquake management skills and support to the people of Sindupalchowk and Nuwakot where much attention and support is needed.

This is a great opportunity to directly support the community of Nepal in crisis. The donations will have a direct impact, since the NGO can work without the usual administrative overhead.
